The Tate Modern is London’s most popular art gallery with 5.3 million visitors last year so it seems only fitting to give it more space! The new additional pyramid structure will cost £125 million and add 23,000 sq meters to the gallery, that’s 60% more of the space it currently occupies. The extension is due for completion in 2016
The new extension coined, Tate Modern 2, will be 11-storeys and 76 metres (250 feet).
A spokeswoman for Tate said: “A spectacular new building will be created on the south side of the existing gallery to provide more space for modern and contemporary art, and enable Tate to enrich its programme by exploring new areas of contemporary visual culture. Facilities for young people will be central to the new development and learning and visitor engagement will be at its heart.”
