Kicking things off for 2017, Maryland-based band GUMP (Give Us More Power) offer their brand new single titled "War", premiered exclusively via Milk Studios.

In an era where citizens are concerned about their civil rights, safety, and social injustices, we (the people) look to music for encouragement and inspiration. Case in point? Just outside the US capital, GUMP is hitting all the right notes: a jazz rock style of hip-hop, highlighting live musical instruments, and with political commentary to boot, their latest single “War” is just what the doctor ordered for 2017.

While the title may suggest an attack on the opposition, the new cut takes more of an observant approach, backed by the band's trademark melodic instrumentation. Laced with both rugged riffs and the sweetest guitar lines, lead vocalist Uno Hype leads the way by not being afraid to tackle today's problems head on, addressing its causes and asking for people to fight the good fight in solidarity. The song eventually drifts in to a new direction, as we're greeted with an instrumental, filled with woozy key notes and sombre guitar lines, all held together by a steady drum beat, as Hype eases his way back in, reiterating his points made previously.

"War" serves as the band's lead single, which is featured on their upcoming EP 'Beer & Wine' - due for release March 2017.

When you think of cities and states across the US that are popular breeding grounds for music, it's easy to point to New York, LA, Miami and Atlanta. However, the DMV area is often overlooked and it's a shame because 2016 has been the year where now more than ever, artists are truly emerging and thriving from this tri-state area.

You may recognise the name Uno Hype from being the voice of GUMP, an alternative hip hop/rock band from Maryland, think BadBadNotGood meets Joey Bada$$. Yesterday, the Gaithersburg rapper teamed up with Baltimore singer Paris Lain for a smooth, yet woozy cut titled "More". Produced by frequent collaborator Kojo a., the pair bring forward an R&B record, declaring their adoration for their love interest in mind. It's a nice cut that'll sit perfectly during these cold and cozy winter nights. Where Paris woos his women with smooth vocals, Hype is more direct with his approach and isn't afraid of showing his girl that he needs more.

Following the release of 'Sleven', a 6-track debut EP from Maryland-based, alternative hip hop band GUMP, lead vocalist Uno Hype makes a return to releasing solo music. Teaming up with frequent collaborator Kojo, 'Hype unveils a woozy and sometimes sombre cut titled "Girl 6". Those familiar with GUMP, especially their standout single "Unusual", will know Hype's no stranger to rocky relationships, however "Girl 6" sees the rapper detailing the crossroads of a relationship, forced to meet an ultimatum, as he battles between the decision of either continuing on this rocky road or to cut all ties off.

Dreams of sipping Mai Tai are quickly met with Kojo's production, forcing Hype to reconsider his options, as he glides over a bass-heavy, strings-driven instrumental. "Girl 6" provides a contrast in how Hype tells his stories, making this a darker follow up to his self-produced "Summer Fun". While GUMP begin work on their second EP, Uno Hype flies the flag for the quartet, as he continues to drop more solo cuts, leading us in to fall with new music from the DMV native.

While summer may have come to a close, Maryland rapper and GUMP-frontman Uno Hype recently delivered "Summer Fun", a track that is full of woozy vocal samples and bouncy percussion, guaranteed to get you moving. Yes the summer is over, but the latest from Hype will take you back to the hottest day of the year, perfect for those end of summer BBQ's, as you reminisce over the good times you've had the last few months. So get the drinks out and have one last dance before the sun goes down!
