London Fields Film Festival

It has been announced that the first London Fields Free Film Festival will run from Friday 17 October until Sunday 26 October.

The festival aims to attract local audiences to enjoy a ten day celebration of cinema at a number of venues across London Fields. The festival will showcase an eclectic collection of features, documentaries, shorts, animation and experimental films, with a special focus on Hackney/London based themes and filmmakers. There will be also be Q&As, curated screenings and other special events to take part in, all for free.

London Fields is known across the city for its quirky arts and cultures scene, from the bustle of Broadway Market with its books and broad cuisines to the indie films of Hackney Picturehouse. The festival aims to pay tribute to the talent of the area and engage its diverse community with free events taking place across a range of classic and new venues in the local area, to bring the neighbourhood together in a fun and free environment.

Daniel Theo, Festival Organiser, comments: “it’s a really exciting to be leading on London Fields Free Film Festival and it’s great to be meeting new people from London Fields and working with them across the project. The festival is all about increasing the 'feel good' factor of people in the community by providing free and enjoyable events in popular public spaces.”

The festival also aims to support local filmmaking talent by creating opportunities for local filmmakers to bring their films to a wider audience. As well as showcasing local talent, the festival is hosting a short film competition. Full details can be found at http://www.freefilmfestivals.org/whats-on/london-fields.

Richard Scott, London Fields Free Film Festival volunteer comments: “The London Fields Free Film Festival is planned and run entirely by local volunteers. It is a great opportunity to meet new people in the area and to give something back to the community. We’re still looking for volunteers to help on site on the days of the screenings so please do contact londonfieldsfreefilmfestival@gmail.com if you’d like to get involved.”

The London Fields Free Film Festival is part of the Free Film Festival community group and is the newest addition to the schedule. There are currently four other established Free Film Festivals across London - Peckham & Nunhead, New Cross & Deptford, Herne Hill and Camberwell.

The full London Fields Free Film Festival programme will be announced in August 2014.
