Out there in the big wide world of London it's Cocktail Week... an inside? Well it can be cocktail week too can it not?

Here's your chance to up your cocktail game with no less than three truly inspired new cocktails (and their recipes) from Alf de Portillio, Head Bartender at the Natural Philosopher [based in Hackney].

London Cocktail Week is the time to tantalise the taste buds with special edition cocktails from Vita Coco. Cocktail maestro extraordinaire, Alf de Portillo, Head Bartender at The Natural Philosopher in Hackney has curated three original cocktails using Vita Coco’s ‘Pure’ coconut water: Thrilla in Manilla, Naariyal Hi Ball and Torcida Sour mocktail.

Featuring a suave mix of classic flavours, with an added coconut twist, these three drinks provide the best of both worlds!  Using a combination of familiar and unusual ingredients, including peanut butter and Cherry Heering, these dynamic flavours pair perfectly with Vita Coco’s coconut water, for a delightful taste of the beach!

The first drink on the menu, Thrilla in Manila features dry gin as a base, with familiar additions of orange bitters and Patis de Marseille, along with uplifting notes of coconut from Vita Coco’s coconut water. The second drink, coined Naariyal Hi Ball, is a mix of Zacapa and Vita Coco coconut water, fragrant peanut butter and angostura bitters. The final mocktail, Torcida Sour, is an alternative for those preferring an alcohol-free option, using Vita Coco’s coconut water as a base. It also features a hint of peach, similar to Vita Coco’s own Peach and Mango flavoured coconut water!

The bartenders at The Natural Philosopher will be serving Alf’s original, Vita Coco cocktails and mocktail for the whole of London Cocktail Week (2nd– 8th October 2017), so why not head down to Hackney to get a taste of the beach next week?

50 ml Vita Coco water

35 ml Tanqueray London Dry

10 ml Pastis de Marseille

2 dash Orange Bitters

STIR the ingredients on a mixing glass. STRAIN contents into a chilled glass. Garnish with Floating Star Anise. Straight up

Naariyal Hi Ball


50 ml Vita Coco water

40 ml Zacapa 23

10 ml Peanut butter fat washed Cherry Heering

2 dash Angostura Bitters


Hi Ball







BUILD the ingredients directly on the glass. ADD a block of ice. Garnish with Cherry and Ice block


Torcida Sour (non-alcoholic)


75 ml Vita Coco water

10 ml Sugar Syrup

20 ml Lemon Juice

2 dash Peach Bitters

20 ml Egg Whites


Sour Glass





DRY SHAKE and SHAKE and STRAIN into a glass Garnish with Grana Padano - sprinkled

To celebrate London Cocktail Week, Cabana, the Brasilian barbecue restaurant, have created an alcoholic Froyocino – the very first alcoholic frozen yoghurt. The spiked fro-yo fuses together double espresso, blended with doce de leite fro-yo, ice and a shot of cachaça, creating a unique serve with the flavours of Brasil.

London Cocktail Week showcases the capital’s most innovative cocktail creation and this year Cabana joins in on the fun to presents its own unique take on the popular desert, using some of Brasil’s most popular flavours.

Cabana’s alcoholic Froyocino will be available exclusively during London Cocktail Week, so you have until 12th October to grab one for just £5 across all of Cabana’s London sites.

The Tia Maria Dark

The Tia Maria Dark Room flings open its glamorous doors for the last time this year, bringing its unique series of events to a close at East London’s Dray Walk Gallery, during London Cocktail Week on 9th and 10th October.

After a busy summer touring the hottest spots in the UK, curator and radio personality, Gemma Cairney, will be leading us in celebrating all the best bits of a girl’s night out - we’ll have live music from one of the UK’s hottest new indie/pop bands The Lottery Winners, DJ sets from Blonde Ambition and The Mac Twins, manicures courtesy of WAH Nailshairstyling by the team at TONI&GUY and of course Tia Maria cocktails.

If that wasn’t enough, Tia Maria Brand Ambassador and master mixologist Rod Eslamieh will be debuting the Tia Espresso Ice cocktail – a perfect blend of Tia Maria and espresso, finished with skimmed milk and ice, only ever served chilled to perfection!

After opening the stage at our launch event in Manchester Gemma has invited indie/pop collective The Lottery Winners, fresh off the back of supporting Scouting for Girls this summer, back to help her bring the Tia Maria Dark Room to a close with another stellar performance. DJ collective The Mac Twins, and Blonde Ambition will also be hitting the decks, alongside Tia Maria Dark Room curator Gemma Cairney, spinning the hottest dance floor fillers and classic party tracks for the evening.

Guests will be treated to a complimentary manicure courtesy of a glamorous team of expert nail technicians from cult East London nail art boutique WAH Nails. The team down at WAH nails personally designed five stunning nail art creations with the rich, vibrant Tia Maria colour palette, including one limited edition design inspired by the decadent Tia Espresso Martini, a timeless cocktail blending espresso, vodka and Tia Maria.

Also taking residence at The Tia Maria Dark Room will be stylists from leading salon TONI&GUY who will be teasing, tonging and twirling guests’ hair into the hottest hair trends of 2014.

Cuervo's Hacienda is in full swing at The Hoxton, Shoreditch for London Cocktail Week. If you've not been yet however you may want to put the closing party in your diary this Saturday.

Hacienda's closing fiesta will be a lively all-day closing party which on Saturday 11th October. You can enjoy Cuervo's exclusive seasonal margaritas (including the Autumnal Traditional Sour, made with figs Yum bloody Yum!) and the extra cool, ultra gorgeous, DJ Carly Foxx will be on the decks!

The fiesta is free to attend and those with a London Cocktail Week wristband can enjoy cocktails for £4!

So what's on?

Well, if you're looking to expand your drinks knowledge before you hit the party circuit then there's plenty to get your teeth into. Head to Harry Gordon's at Selfridges for a masterclass in blending rum, hear about 'Growing Gin in the Woods' from foraged botanicals with the chaps from Burleight Gin, hosted at their pop-up at Merchant House, or why not explore 100 classic martinis with Sipsmith at their Kettner's Pop-up - open Mon-Tues.

Fancy making a night of it? There are still a few tickets left for the Buffalo Trace tasting dinner at renowned Soho restaurant MASH- join Master Distiller Drew Mayville, here all the way from Kentucy and be the first to taste this year's limited edition Buffalo Trace Antique Collection.
