Wondering through sweet citrus scents we found ourselves in a mini Italy last night, planted right on Shoreditch High Street. Oranges and lemons were piled high at the entrance and a number of bars under colourful canopies offered beer infused cocktails, parmesan infused pasta and pizzas. Themed decor was on point as expected, and the little hidden bar (we won't tell you where you'll find it) was a den of moody drinks and quiet conversations.

House of Peroni has returned!

With every drop of Peroni Nastro Azzurro that passes your lips, you can taste, smell and feel Italy’s, craftsmanship and vitality coming through the crisp, refreshing liquid. The delicate balance of bitterness and aromatic citrus notes set this distinctly Italian beer apart and make citrus fruits the perfect accompaniment to its unmistakeable flavour.

This inspired master brewers to develop Peroni Ambra – a limited edition variant inspired by the aperitivo occasion which combines Peroni Nastro Azzurro with the sharpness of rare Italian Chinotto fruit. Following its success, the brand will continue its journey into the world of citrus with the latest iteration of The House of Peroni Residency - ‘Infused with Italy’ - at its very heart.

Returning to East Londonthe House brings to life the vivacity and zest for life that is undeniably Italian. The event transports guests to the streets of Italy where they are given the chance to reimagine citrus and explore previously undiscovered flavour combinations.

THE TALENT

Award-winning mixologist, Simone Caporale, reprises his role as Master of Mixology but this time with a twist. He has taken a team of bartenders, paired with creative experts, on an inspiring trip to Northwest Italy where they were challenged to take Italian citrus fruits and translate them into bespoke Peroni-infused cocktails.

The line-up of guest bartenders includes leading mixologists from Swift, Chiltern Firehouse and The London EDITION, who will be coupled with the founder of florist Grace & Thorn, fragrance specialists from Earl of East London and illustrator, George Greaves. These innovative partnerships are designed to push the boundaries of traditional mixology, fusing scent, sight and taste to create something truly unique for visitors. The social media campaign supporting this is currently live on the @peroniuk Instagram feed, charting their journey of creation as they discover the provenance and authenticity of Peroni’s Italy.

Our host and critically acclaimed chef, Francesco Mazzei, will also continue his role as Master of Taste and, in honour of the citrus theme, provides a ‘zesty’ take on Italian street food. Self-styled as ‘mama’s cooking with chef’s hands’, the menu is concise yet diverse – working with locally available produce and featuring daily specials, from warming pasta dishes such as egg fettuccine with Grana Padano and lemon, and a rich duck ‘lasagnetta’ with fruit mustard, to aperitivo light bites including pumpkin and avocado citrus croquettes, and lemon and rosemary meatballs. This is joined by a gluten-free polenta with citrus and roasted peppers, along with an array of smaller bites.

THE SPACE

The sprawling windows of the vast building capture the attention of passers-by and tease the inner spaces through vibrant displays, inviting guests to enter and explore all that Italy has to offer.

Upon arrival you will be thrown into a lively Fruttivendolo (fruit market) where you'll discover an abundance of citrus fruits, leading you to the first of several bars. Fragrances of Francesco Mazzei’s traditional Italian dishes fill the air and his street food style menu is available to purchase from the open kitchen. A gelato cart will also entice you to enjoy a sweet treat with a creamy ricotta and lemon ice cream.

If you can find it, a concealed door leads the way to a secret bar deep amongst the myriad of alleyways. Hosted by Simone Caporale, the intimate bar will entertain small groups of guests with a variety of Peroni Ambra Chinotto-based infusions.

The main area holds ‘Bar Citrus’ where Peroni Nastro Azzurro flows and everyone is energised by the beat of Italo house music. The central bar space, influenced by Italian cafes, invites guests to try a vibrant cocktail menu featuring the bartender and talent creations that were inspired by their trip to Italy. Their creations will include:

CHINOTTO MONTEMORO:

Inspired by the Chinotto groves of Liguria this cocktail features dark rum, Martini Rubino, Amaro and grapefruit and lemon juices. Topped with Peroni Ambra, the drink is completed with a Luxardo cherry and spoon of bitter Chinotto jam. Created by Federico Doldi (Chiltern Firehouse) and Nik Southern (founder of florist Grace & Thorn)

LIMONE DELLA LIGURIA:

Celebrating lemon and inspired by the Riviera of Cinque Terre, this infusion features sweet Falernum Liqueur, Martini Ambrato, Grappa, lemon juice, rosemary syrup and topped with Peroni Nastro Azzurro. The garnish features dry lemon and rosemary with cardamom and star anise spices. Created by Davide Manzi (London EDITION), Niko Drafkos and Paul Firmin (scent experts and founders of Earl of East London)

BERGAMOT TRAMONTO:

Inspired by the streets of Genoa, the drink features Peroni Nastro Azzurro Gluten Free, Italicus, bergamot sherbet and lemon juice, topped with a refreshing citrus sorbet and thyme. Created by Mia Johansson (founder of Swift) and George Greaves (illustrator)

To accompany the drinks, Italian delicacies will be available for purchase from the 4Cose Deli, with selected salumi and formaggio (cheese) on offer.

A bespoke programme of music will be specially provided by music partner, Early Sounds Recordings (Naples), with an eclectic mix of record selectors playing throughout the 10 day opening, with Italian guest DJs playing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

LONDON COCKTAIL WEEK

The House of Peroni will open its doors concurrently with the capital’s foremost drinks festival, London Cocktail Week (2nd-8th October, Spitalfields Market). Once again, Peroni Nastro Azzurro will be the only beer brand taking part in the event, serving a selection of Peroni-infused cocktails from an Italian-style street stall, designed as a teaser for the market setting of the main House – just minutes down the road.

The House of Peroni takes residence at
N&C Showrooms, 3-10 Shoreditch High Street, London, E1 6PG

Designer Jamie Wei Huang’s SS18 collection, “Dew”, was inspired by the fragmented recounting and retelling of personal experience. It was a concept drawn from Huang’s reflection on her own traditional Taiwanese culture, and captured by the beautiful, hesitantly accumulative piano piece which instigated her show.

The story began in stripes. Blues, pinks and greens growing in depth and vivacity with each piece, a gradual solidifying of colours to correlate that of re-emerging memory; the punctuation of bold reds, yellows and cobalt in the shoes and accessories, providing those colourful splashes of certainty which continue to emerge throughout the collection.

Huang’s Spring/Summer designs favour easy-fit clothing; wedding dresses and jumpsuits tying into her signature style of elongated silhouettes with a focus on creating contemporary fashion for the modern woman.

Wedding Dresses

The concept of construction was apparent in the rough-cut hems, sewn on pockets and undisguised use of zips, drawstrings and metallic rings which both decorated the pieces and acted as functional elements of the designs.

Creative cut-outs were another standout feature, with gaping knees and bare-backed jackets building on the impression of fragmented recollection, while asymmetric designs alluded to the inevitable incompleteness of memory.

Denim-look fabrics, and the brave contrasting of colour-block socks with easy slip-on sandals concluded the collection with a sense of layered individuality, promoting self-expression through contemporary fashion.

Originally from Taiwan, Huang graduated from Central Saint Martins College in London in 2012, launching her designer label Jamie Wei Huang to great critical acclaim in 2013; winning both the “Designer For Tomorrow” award, and the “Elle talent Award” for her AQ14 collection. Huang’s designs are now sold internationally in luxury retailers such as Harvey Nichols, Dover Street Market, David Jones Sydney and mimma ninni.

Perhaps the most sophisticated show of the weekend, Rohmir not only showcased the weeks youngest fashion stars, welcoming three adorable child models to the catwalk, but was stepped out to a live operatic performance.

A-line Wedding Dresses

Setting out to capture the passion of classic Italian beauty, Rohmir’s SS18 collection entitled “Sparkling”, boasts yet another line of timeless ready-to-wear pieces which scream out nobility and class.

Ball Gown Wedding Dresses

The SS18 colour palette remained simple, yet sophisticated; with navy and cream, meeting midnight and sky blues. Rohmir favours v-neck or crew-cut necklines, her dresses classically tailored to create a sleek finish which compliments the female silhouette.

Adding to the aura of elegance and glamour, Rohmir’s SS collection keeps its “Sparkling” promise, with beads and sequins studding the gowns and decorating the hemlines, while side-slit skirts and open backs give the collection a touch of risqué.

A stand-out piece came in the form a beautiful white wrap-around gown, one of two pieces decorated from top to toe in delicate applique flowers.

Ruffled collars and flared sleeves were just a couple more standout features of the collection, which was not simply walked, but theatrically performed by its talented cast of models, beautifully made up with 30s inspired hair and classic smoky eyes credit to Kryolan UK and Tony and Guy.

Confidently showcased, designer Olga Roh put on a truly outstanding showcase on every level of detail, earning herself a celebratory walk of the runway in one of her own stunning designs.
