Yee Cho (pronounced ‘yay cho’) is a Burmese dining experience for those looking to discover something different. Hosted by half-Burmese chef Freya Coote, the pop up takes its name from a close family friend who taught her how to cook Burmesedishes and cared for her Nana. Yee Cho also means sweet or fresh water inBurmese, a metaphor for the undiscovered food of Myanmar.
Much of what is served at Yee Cho is based on traditional recipes from Freya’s family kitchen in Yangon alongside other dishes that take inspiration from typical Burmese ingredients to create something completely new. Food is served in sharing bowls to reflect the tradition of eating communally and is also a chance to get to know other diners.
As Burma (or Myanmar) becomes more popular with travellers, interest in its rich culture and unique food is rapidly increasing. The food of Myanmar brings together sweet, sour and salty flavours along with crunchy textures, offering its own strong identity.
Hosted at the much-loved boozer The Gun in Homerton, expect a special dining experience; something entirely new for London foodies.
Yee Cho takes place on Tuesday 23rd August, please see below for the August menu. Another Burmese dinner will also take place on Tuesday 25th October.
