On Tuesday 19th, The National Portrait Gallery welcomed another art form to stand alongside their historical collection.

Tata Naka designers, Tamara and Natasha Surguladze, presented their vintage-inspired SS18 womenswear collection on the third floor of The National Portrait Gallery; a presentation which sat easily amongst the grandeur of its setting.

The Tata Naka SS18 collection saw seasonal summer stripes and vintage florals in contrasting aubergine and daffodil hues; high-waisted tailoring and wide collars gave the collection a retro-feel while the addition of side slits and bare-shoulder necklines remained in-keeping with forecast Spring/Summer trends.

The styling was done to artistic perfection. Dark lipstick and a reflective sheen to the contouring, giving the models an artificial quality  - real-life portraits of modern-vintage dress.

Backstage at Ong-Oaj Pairam was a magnificent blur of subtle florals, floating silks, rainbow pleats and billowing ball gowns; with the welcome addition of male models looking decidedly suited and booted in pastel three-pieces. Hair was slick and sleek, pulled back into chic low-knots, and make-up was kept to a creamy minimal: fresh faces all round.

As the lights went up so did the onlookers in their seats, as glorious silks softly doused in the sweetest of oriental prints made their way majestically down the catwalk. The collection was a delightful mix of bohemian, oriental and preppy as pleated silk tennis skirts were teamed with matching pastel blazer and (the most amazing) knee-high heeled gladiators, followed by billowing blue ball gowns and chic baby pink boilersuits. Pairam is renowned for his print and tailoring and the SS15 delivered exceptionally on both fronts; the print, whilst subtle, was eye-catching and recognisably Pairam and the prominence of tailoring through the SS15 collection was undeniable. The use of both male and female models throughout the catwalk proved the wearability of Pairam’s Spring/Summer offering and was in keeping with the utilitarian inspiration behind his creations: his childhood spent growing up in Nakhon Ratichasima working closely beside the family business. A delicate and delicious aesthetic that appeals to both genders and is completely wearable; we think Ong-Oaj Pairam’s SS15 collection may be his best yet.
