Cocktail lovers rejoice! There is a whole new cocktail menu at Madison that needs to take it's rightful place on your hitlist! You'll find Madison at the top of One New Change just off Cheapside.  It's a really handy place to know about as it doesn't get overly busy with after work drinks, it has an amazing terrace and you can combine it with a bit of shopping so what's not to love?

Combining so many things I love - a great view of the city, alcoholic beverages and an ode to Manhattan,  Madison and it's new cocktail menu kept us company last week along with some particularly good mini burgers whilst we waited for spring to kick in.

If you are a little strange like me you will love the fact that you can be outdoors with heaters here even though the weather's not quite what you would call 'balmy' yet.  You get a great view of St Paul's and you can always duck inside for a bit if you are more sensitive to the cold!

An additional reason to pop along to Madison now though is their twelve new themed cocktails- you may have to plan a couple of trips to get through them all. Celebrating the dizzying heights of Manhattan, New York the new collection helps you sip your way through America’s colourful cocktail history from the Victorian ages right through the Prohibition era to the present day without the flight, Air B&B costs or needing to find a working time machine!

Half of the menu honours six world-famous classics from the cocktail Hall of Fame in their original form. Hailing from the golden ages of cocktail culture, these serves have travelled through generations to gain glory around the world.

The other half of the menu is formed of six contemporary twists guaranteed to delight any cocktail aficionado. Unexpected but delicious, these modern-day masterpieces champion ambitious experimentation on par with New York’s own world-class cocktail bar scene.

The menu has been devised by Madison Assistant General Manager Fred Tartas and his team. Having previously worked at German Gymnasium, Blue Bar at The Berkeley Hotel and The Ritz, Paris, Fred has years of experience under his belt when it comes to creating the very best in cocktails

Our favourites were the Maple & Almond Sour. A nutty twist on the much-loved whisky sour, featuring Armagnac Gaspard infused with roasted almond, dark chocolate and spices, lemon juice, maple syrup and egg white.

And The Mist. Which takes on the Southside cocktail with a mix of Death’s Door Gin, honey & spinach syrup and
lemon juice. This cocktail is as fresh and tasty as it gets.

After being the talk of the town throughout summer, the truly unique Magic Roundabout has raised the bar once more with exciting plans to transform the site for winter, into a tented, heated, ‘Decades’ inspired wonderland.

Stepping through Old Street tube station you’ll take the stairs through Time and Space and pop up into a homage to the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. The brand new themed areas include a slightly bonkers version of Woodstock with some serious flower power and a super sexy 1970s Playboy lounge, complete with sheepskins and log fire. The Main Bar will be an all out 80s disco with futuristic art and palm trees and finally, the VIP Area will take you right back to the early 90s; oh the patterns, oh the Fresh Prince colours!

The winter relaunch also sees Smokin’ Lotus take the reins from White Men Cant Jerk who are off to pastures new. Smokin’ Lotus is the creation of Rosalind Chick who uses old family recipes as inspiration for her BBQ menu. In just two years Smokin’ Lotus has risen through the ranks and was voted no 42 in Time Out’s top 50 street food traders 2017. The main ingredients are smoked in Rosalind’s home-built smokehouse and the 11 hour slow smoked beef brisket with hoisin sauce and Japanese-style creamy potato salad mash cannot be recommended highly enough. Smokin’ Lotus will complete the award winning street food offering for winter which already includes Skins and Burger Bear.

Throughout Autumn and winter the venue will play host to a huge range of events, highlights include an immersive Halloween party on 28th October in collaboration with Budweiser, a Liquid D&B party from Sine with Commix headlining on 4th November and our Wasted Chic Christmas Market on 5th December. The venue is also available for private hire throughout the season and makes a very original Christmas party venue for groups of up to 500. You can check out the full line up of events and the Christmas Brochure, plus make enquiries via the website:

Mezcal mash up

The soon to be with us Mezcal Mash up event at Casa Negra will start with an introduction by Manomasa Founder Calum Ryder, who will take guests through the six Manomasa tortilla chip varieties from Green Lemon & Pink Peppercorn to Tomatillo Salsa.  This will be followed by Melanie Symonds, producer of mezcal at Quiquiruiqui (http://quiquiriqui.co.uk), who will help guests discover four of the finest entry level mezcals as well as two exquisite single estate mezcals, all expertly paired for tasting with Manomasa’s six topotos and Casa Negra’s delicious dips and salsas.  Attendees will also learn why purists like their mezcal straight up, like a good whisky or scotch, tasting the intricate and complex notes of this fascinating spirit.

“Born on the back streets of Mexico” Manomasa pays tribute to the original tortilla chip – the ‘totopo ‘– using traditional Mexican techniques to create adventurous tasting tortillas.  The chips are the perfect playmate for Casa Negra, a Mexican neighbourhood restaurant serving traditional food and awesome tequilas in the heart of Shoreditch.

Mezcal is a spirit from the heart of agave plants and predominantly created in Oaxaca, Mexico.  It is a smoky, spicy, complex cousin of tequila made in much the same way as it was 200 years ago, and is now growing recognition in the global drinks arena.

The Mezcal Mash Up is in association with Manomasa Crisps (as you may have guessed).

Event Details

At : Casa Negra on Wednesday 17th September (6.30pm-9.00pm) in collaboration with Manomasa (www.manomasa.co.uk), an exciting brand of premium tortillas with spirit.

Alcoholic-seaside Slushy

Taking inspiration from retro classics has never been more now, prompting trailblazers to style up classics from days gone by. Which is why The Parlour is reviving childhood memories this summer with the launch of its delicious alcoholic slush puppies. The popular Drake & Morgan bar and restaurant in Canary Wharf has launched two exciting all-new alcoholic slush puppies for a grown-up twist on the frozen favourite – the Seaside Slushy (£9.95) and the Cool as a Cactus (£9.95) – both available until 31st August.

The Slushies

The word ‘slushies’ conjures memories of the rainbow-bright concoctions we loved as children, but The Parlour’s versions – expertly mixed from fresh ingredients such as homemade lemonade and passion fruit – won’t stain your tongue blue or pink.

The star of the show is the Seaside Slushy, made from El Dorado three-year-old rum, poppy liqueur, passion fruit, and is served on a bed of edible sand and garnished with passion fruit. The Mexican influenced Cool as a Cactus – made from Mescal, agave, homemade lemonade and peach bitters – is a zesty number that will leave you thirsty for more.

Take It Outside

The Parlour, set in the Park Pavilion on Canada Square, is a striking and innovative all-day destination serving seasonal food and expertly mixed cocktails. Its secret garden-inspired lounge and stunning terrace provide the perfect setting for sipping its latest icy creations al fresco throughout the summer.

Visit The Parlour to reminisce with this delicious take on the childhood tipple!
