Hen do. Just those two words sat next to one another are enough to fill most women these days with dread. No one likes forced fun and no one really wants to make knickers. Attempting to learn a technical dance routine fit for only Queen B herself in under two hours before being stuffed into an ill-fitting, skin tight leotard and filmed for airing at the wedding is nothing short of cringe, and let’s face it, no one wants to be sat in a room with their nan and a stripper.

Feeling crafty and creative? Smokin’ Graciela’s rooftop bar hosts a unique wire bird making workshop on 27th June, continuing the Cuban rooftop theme with celebrated artist and sculptor, Zack McLaughlin teaching you how to make the colourful, 3D Tody birds.

unnamed-1

Belonging to the Todidae family, the Cuban bird is known for its vibrant coloured feathers and distinct big-headed appearance. It’s red throat, whitish belly and pinkish sides will spike your imagination and have you experimenting with colour. No previous skills necessary. All materials and complimentary cocktail included in the ticket price.
Zack McLaughlin says: “Inspired by the beauty of birds, I love to create sculptures from paper, wood and other mixed media. I began making these sculptures a couple of years ago, the first one I made was for my own children’s book concept where a little boy makes a paper bird lantern and flies away. I couldn’t visualise how to paint it so I went about making it. I loved the process and found experimenting with new materials a real challenge and in the end hugely rewarding.

From the first bird I went on to experiment further and as with my illustration I try to recreate faithfully what I find beautiful, so I would try to create more and more realistic sculptures of birds.”
