bunga bunga in covent gardenThe latest project from Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling’s Inception Group, BungaTINI, a spin off and sister restaurant to the legendary Battersea venue, Bunga Bunga, has opened its doors on Drury Lane. Open throughout the day, guests can pop in to enjoy the very best coffee, pastries, homemade paninis cut from foot-long homemade focaccias, salads and, of course, pizzas cooked in a wood-fired Valoriani oven.

The deli’s eye-catching display counter has an excellent selection of cured meats, antipasti and homemade pasta available to take away or enjoy in the lively space decorated in warm wooden panelling, terracotta and original mosaic tiles. There is a vibrant bar serving negronis, bellinis, spritzes, vermouths and a wide range of proseccos and these can be enjoyed alongside small plates as part of the afternoon AperiTINI menu. Guests can sit on comfortable stools at the bar and enjoy a complimentary cicchetti with their cocktail, in true Italian tradition, or head up the spiral staircase to the upstairs restaurant area with full waiter service. This attractive space with original beams and decked out in fresh green foliage, will serve pizzas homemade in the clay oven alongside antipasti, pasta and other delicious wood-fired dishes. The perfect pit-stop either pre or post-theatre, the 30-cover area can also be hired privately.

General Manager, Matthew Richardson previously managed the original Beak Street Polpo, and has been travelling through Italy all summer handpicking suppliers along with Head Chef, Andrea Pesenti, formally of Mele e Pele. In the far back hand corner of BungaTini there is an obscure door to a refrigerated meat locker. The door is securely locked until January but behind the door lies the start of an immersive journey through to another world, hidden under the bustling pizzeria. Watch this space as further details will be revealed soon...

Founder Charlie Gilkes says of the project:
“We are delighted to introduce Bunga Bunga’s little sister, BungaTINI, a pizzeria and bar which will offer our guests an authentic Italian experience inspired by the backstreets of Florence and Venice. We look forward to welcoming you here soon, just don’t look in the meat locker for now...”

Inception Group are well loved for their unique conceptual hospitality concepts and also own and operate Chelsea speakeasy Barts, 80s themed nightspot Maggie’s, Mr Fogg’s, a Mayfair based bar that is modelled on the actual home of Jules Verne’s most famous adventurer, Phileas Fogg and its sister venues, Mr Fogg’s Tavern, a Victorian-inspired Pub and Mr Fogg’s Gin Parlour, which serves over 300 gins. Other Inception Group concepts include: Beaver Lodge, a cabin bar and dance saloon based on the winter cowboy log cabins found in Wyoming, Cahoots, a 1940s-inspired bar set in a hidden underground tube station.

Copacabana at bunga bunga

Missed the boat with booking your Brazilian beach holiday in time for Rio Carnival, fear not, head riverside rather than seaside, and join in the Cocobananas Rio Carnival Party, on Friday 13th February, above Bunga Bunga, on Battersea Bridge Road.

Celebrating the world’s biggest carnival, for one night only, Cocobananas will transform it’s laid back beach shack into a one-stop-party-shop of carnival craziness. Guests will be welcomed with complimentary whistles, before being sashayed away by sexy samba dancers to have themselves decorated as decadently as the bar staff, (who will be hidden behind their feather headdresses), with free festive face painting.

An array of colourful, carnival themed, Cachaca filled Caipirinhas, (so extensive, that the lucky ones will even be in with a chance to match their drink to their dress), will be available, and Bossa Nova beats will be blended with various Latin American Electro, raising the heat on the dancefloor, before it’s cleared for two especially steamy Samba performances. Last but not least, there will be blown up animals around the place– of course – what Brazilian party would be complete without raving rainforest revelers!?

Cocobananas takes guests straight to the heart of a Latin American beach party. Set over two floors, the nightclub is a celebration of all things Brazilian, with a décor evoking the vibrant beach shacks found throughout the country. Design features include vintage surfboards, palm trees, distressed plantation shutters, and a reproduction of Rio’s iconic Christ the Redeemer Statue. Guests can unwind in the upstairs caipirinha bar, which offers the perfect holiday soundtrack and atmosphere.

The Inception Group also own and operate Chelsea speakeasy Barts, 80s themed nightclub, Maggie’s, the acclaimed Bunga Bunga, an Englishman’s Italian, Bar, Pizzeria and Karaoke, and Mr Fogg’s, a Mayfair bar modeled on the home of Jules Verne’s most famous adventurer, Phileas Fogg. Last December they also launched Beaver Lodge, a cabin bar and dance saloon based on the winter cowboy log cabins found in Wyoming.

So get all kinds of festival freaky, this Friday 13th at Cocobananas

bunga bunga romeBattersea based Englishman's Italian Bar, Pizzeria and Karaoke, Bunga Bunga, is proud to present their new weekly night, launching on Thursday, 31st January 2014 – to celebrate the end of the gloomiest month of the year - ‘The Roman Empire of Bunga Bunga’.

Harking back to Italy's heyday, and to the very roots of their Roman capital, each Thursday they will now be hosting a special night, where a new Emperor will be awarded power over the party and people. True to Italian political form, they will of course be lavished with elaborate and ostentatious privileges of their own.

Guests on the night, will be welcomed to their tables, where they will find a new, limited edition, Bunga Bunga cap, with which they will have to compete to create the best ‘Emperor Selfie’. The most impressive Bunga-capped selfie to then be tweeted to @BungaBungaLondn, or uploaded onto Facebook, with the hashtag #IAMTHEEMPEROR, will be selected by the Senate of Bunga Bunga at 10pm. Following this, the winner will be crowned and gowned during the biggest ever victory procession that has taken place at Bunga Bunga.

As Emperor of Bunga Bunga, the ‘chosen one’ will then be upgraded to an Emperor’s thrown, to sit on for the rest of the evening, (that will of course be delivered to the table by Roman parade), a complimentary ‘The Colosseum’ cocktail sharer (for 8 people, including Grey Goose Poire and a whole bottle of Martini Prosecco), to refresh their fellow party members, and finally, a personal palm servant – to keep them cool and feed them grapes during their reign.

Alas, it will not be all play, no work, for the righteous ruler. They will also be awarded the ultimate ‘thumbs down’ power to judge the evening’s karaoke, and tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that only the best, and most easy-on–the-ear entertainers are allowed to take center stage.

Finally, to commemorate their role and time as leader, each new Emperor’s selfie will then be given pride of place on the ‘Empire Wall of Fame’, where they shall remain a piece of Bunga Bunga history, for all of time.

The acclaimed Bunga Bunga, is owned and operated by The Inception Group, whose founders Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling have also created Chelsea speakeasy Barts, 80’s themed nightclub Maggie’s, and last summer launched Mr Fogg’s in Mayfair, a recreation of the actual home of Jules Verne’s most famous adventurer, Phileas Fogg and new underground boite, 1970S Manhattan inspired, Disco, in Soho.

So if you want to be Emperor for the evening and crowned King of the colosseum, as well as the cocktails – parade down to Bunga Bunga.

Nb. Contrary to the Bunga Bunga party myth, clothing is essential – all those that arrive wearing ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ will be denied access to the party.

THE ROMAN EMPIRE of BUNGA BUNGA

EVERY THURSDAY

6:00pm-1.30pm

Bunga Bunga, 37 Battersea Bridge Road, London, SW11 3BA

In London, every year is the same, people over indulge at Christmas and then come January the guilt sets in and there is talk of healthy eating and exercise, with buzz words and phrases such as detox, diets, cleanses and more. Well, renowned for bending the rules and never one to be constrained by the conservative rules of society, this year Uncle Berlusconi has created his very own take on the what is really good for you, and his Bunga Bunga patrons with the “Bunga Bunga 5 a day”, and no this is not a joke about bananas and oranges...

Running every Wednesday in January, the Bunga Bunga 5 a day will be a karaoke and live music event (see visitors will be encouraged to exercise... both their voices and dance moves) where for just £20 per person guests can enjoy all five of the classic Italian components to a night out, a glass of prosecco, a bruschetta, a glass of house wine, a margarita pizza, and, finalmente, a bowl of homemade gelato.

So if you loyalty lies more with ‘the good life’ than what is good for you then join the party at Bunga Bunga.

UnknownWhat a rollercoaster of karaoke, singers, drag queens, brunches, pizzas and general mayhem the last two years at Bunga Bunga has been – but here they are, two years old, and to celebrate, on Wednesday 25th September, from 6.30pm, Bunga Bunga will be hosting the biggest Buon Compleanno Party Battersea has ever seen.

On arrival, guests will be welcomed with a crazy cocktail and canapé reception, Italiano style, bursting with buonissimi Bellinis and Buffalo balls (of mozzarella), during which they can enjoy the Mediterranean melodies of live performances from top latino bands such as Colomboloco.

Later in the evening there will then be a surprise special guest appearance, from one of the venues nearest and dearest old friends, any guesses?? There will also be birthday cake, of course, but in true Bunga Bunga fashion, ‘sharing is caring’, it will be available in the form of compleanno cocktail sharers, served in individual edible birthday cakes for the ‘best of both’ at Bunga Bunga.

Then, at midnight there will be a special celebration and countdown to another year of Bunga Bunga fun. In fact, keen to stay ahead of the game and impress the ladies at all times, Uncle Berlusconi even arranged a bit of a face lift, (not for himself this time) and has given good old Bunga Bunga a bit of a tart up for the party. So with a sparkly new paint job, a load more fun and flashy bits of Italian paraphernalia on the walls, (courtesy of a trip his light fingered friends recently made to the Roman market), a new sound and lighting system (all the better to see you with my dear) and finally, an extended stage, for more, bigger and better acts and karaoke – Bunga Bunga will be entering it’s third year, the belle of the ball indeed.

The acclaimed Bunga Bunga, is owned and operated by The Inception Group, whose founders Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling have also created Chelsea speakeasy Barts, 80’s themed nightclub Maggie’s, and this summer launched Mr Fogg’s in Mayfair, a recreation of the actual home of Jules Verne’s most famous adventurer, Phileas Fogg and new underground boite, Disco in Soho.

So for birthday bumps Bunga Bunga style head on down to Battersea
