Raffaele Ascione is one of my favourite rising fashion talents. I included him in my 'Future Icons' editorial for Who's Jack magazine last year and have watched his collections get stronger and strong each season. Ascione is a passionate Italian designer who likes to contrast couture with luxury sportswear. He has a innate ability to produce hand crafted garments which focus on the use of lace and sequins - adorning immaculately sewn dresses, crop tops and flowing trousers.

This season the collection utilises fabrics created in house, such as the hand-cut lace, and wool tweed. The looks have a touch of romance juxtaposed by neon yellow and hard black materials - adding vibrancy.

Ascione draws on these contrasts when describing the collection, explaining that it, "is all about heavy contrasts...I really focused on creating items that would want to be worn. And I absolutely loved going back to my darker side."

For me the darkness in Ascione's work is always contrasted by a sense of fun -  this season deep blue baggy trousers are styled with layered neon tops and his trademark over-sized hoop earrings. A black and neon lace top is playfully finished with a bright orange zip. There are gigantic yellow sequins down the front of one jacket, followed by a show stopping black and silver gown which has a severe edge to it.

Romance, playfulness and a passionate love of the female form - Raffaele has truly gone from be my 'Future Icon' to being the designer of the moment.
