In a city that’s become saturated with meat based restaurants it’s getting harder and harder to spot an original restaurant concept. However here to try and persuade us that there are still some business types with a sense of imagination is new King’s Road opening Brooklyn Bite.
Situated towards the top end of King’s Road Brooklyn Bite is the latest New York inspired restaurant to open in London. However unlike their peers they’re not here to bring you their latest take on a burger. No, these guys are concentrating on pizzas.
Brooklyn Bite keeps the menu simple with just 10 different types of pizza to choose from. As well as this they also offer calzones, a selection of sub sandwiches and a handful of signature salads.
What these guys do is make authentic large portioned thin-base pizzas in what they describe as a communal dining atmosphere and they do it very, very well.
On our visit my dining partner and I opted for the Sleep with the fish pizza (mozzarella and calamari – sounds odd but it’s great) and the Fugetaboutit (mozzarella, pancetta, ham, pepperoni, salami) both of which we could have eaten all over again had we not have been really, really full by the end.
The pizzas come in 12″ and 18″ but I suggest the smaller size because even they’re more than enough to cure your appetite. Unlike many other pizza restaurants you can tell some real TLC has gone into Brooklyn Bite’s efforts and if it weren’t for the posh English accents coming from the diners around me I could actually have believed I was sitting in an authentic New York style pizzeria.
Even if you’re not in the mood for a whole meal Brooklyn Bite is still worth checking out. They have a speakeasy style cocktail bar downstairs, perfect for an after work drink and you can always opted to go in on just a slice of your chosen pizza rather than the whole shibang.
It’s also worth noting that if you live in the area they offer take aways, at the moment you have to pick up but a delivery system will be in place shortly.
Just a word of advise. Make sure you save at least some space for their chocolate calzone. It’s beyond words.
