Boosts of the genre was no doubt to help like Adele's 21 and Jessie J's, Who You Are, which both reached the number one spot for a number of weeks last year. In statistics released by the Official Charts Company  sales of albums classed as rock fell from 31.2% to 29.4% over the year, the lowest sales since 2003.

2011 was also a good year for folk music with musicians like Laura Marling and Noah And The Whale causing sales of the genre to rise to 1.6% of all the albums and easy listening music such as Michael Buble which took up 7.9% of the chart.
