There will be an increase in the number of police on the streets over Christmas and New Year thanks to extra funding from Hackney Council.
The extra police presence, which will largely take place around Dalston and Shoreditch at night time, is to provide the public with extra protection, the Hackney Gazette has reported.
The main focus of the police will be on anti-social behaviour as the area is expected to see an increase in late-night revellers in the next few weeks.
Illegal and unlicensed taxi drivers will also be targetted by undercover police officers.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Sophie Linden told the paper: “Hackney has some great venues for a really good night out.
We want to encourage people to come and enjoy what Hackney has to offer this Christmas, but we want them to stay safe and respect those living nearby.
“We’ve got an excellent partnership with the police, so by working with them and funding extra patrols, we hope that residents and visitors alike will have a happy, safe Christmas.”
