I wanted to run something by you for a feature on WJ as I think it would make a great read and helping us to get the news out will help the London indie business community, something I'm sure you would approve of ;) #MakeNewFriends is all about shopping independent this Christmas - asking people to go out in their communities and #MakeNewFriends by visiting, shopping, eating and drinking at independent businesses whenever they can. The idea is that by sharing these experiences on social networks using the hashtag #MakeNewFriends, we can create a buzz around Christmas which isn’t about lining the pockets of corporate entities but instead about empowering our local communities, independent businesses, sharing experiences and making new friends. More info and video can be found here: https://www.pixieme.org/makenewfriends The #MakeNewFriends movement is being lead by Greg Barden, an ex-royal marine and England Rugby 7's star who founded The Pixie Organisation and the PixieMe app - a community discovery app which puts the spotlight on independent businesses. The movement is also raising money to put back into the independent business community. For every #MakeNewFriends hashtag put out there, the Pixie Organisation will donate 1 penny to their commonwealth fund, which is a pot of money that will be used to give grants to budding business owners. For every new business that signs up to the PixieMe app, £20 will be put into the fund. Once the fund has hit £50,000 young potential business owners will be able to apply for grants to help them launch their business ideas. Press release and more info can be found HEREAs you know Jack is all about grass roots and independents and that's why we are fully behind a new initiative to support independent shops and businesses in London called #MakeNewFriends
