London’s Gherkin looks set to take its true form as it gears up to be turned into an actual Gherkin for Jackpot joy.
Apparently if anythings going to get you gambling it’s seeing a huge gherkin! Hey – we’re not complaining
Jackpot Joy were the people that also brought you the giant duck on the Thames. They say that they intend to inject a little more fun into London.
London’s iconic skyline will be transformed into a rather more foodie one when the prominent Swiss Re Building – commonly known as The Gherkin is turned into a giant green pickle.
A design team was commissioned to create mock ups of the famous skyscraper with an enormous nobbly green gherkin projected onto it. The pictures were submitted to bigwigs at the building, alongside an official permission proposal, to appeal to their humorous sides. It was even suggested that the activity could take place on April Fool’s Day for the ultimate practical joke for Londoner’s to wake up to.
Turning the landmark into a giant gherkin via a projection is by no means an easy task though, with a 10 person team and approximately 900 man hours required to wrap the glass building in a special film to create the perfect non-reflective surface needed for the giant pickle projection.
Michael Saunders, Managing Director of Jackpotjoy.com, adds: “It’s been a long and rather miserable winter and we felt everyone was in dire need of cheering up again! The Gherkin is such an iconic building and with a name like that we just couldn’t resist the opportunity for some more daft fun by attempting to transform it into the very thing it is so aptly named after! It would make for a hilarious and spectacular sight that we’re certain would spread a lot of smiles and laughter across the capital.”
