J.Js Lee’s SS14 showcase was an exciting, diverse and incredibly wearible collection. As guests escaped the London drizzle and took their places in the bustling BFC arena, the Korean designer treated the audience to a catwalk  bursting with colour popping brights, sophisticated sports luxe styles, modern gingham and chic, sleek minimalistic outfits.
Lee has previously voiced her desire to create outfits that look ‘sharp’ yet in a feminine way and the show started off in this spirit with tailored, modest rose pink dresses and tops that wouldn’t look out of place in the office. The candy pink then gave way to monochrome and an edgier, leather look; short leather skirts and fitted black leather pencil dresses were teamed against white collars, cotton and blocked monochrome shirts for a tougher and younger look that still remained sophisticated. Dashes of sports luxe were thrown in the mix, with white airtex jackets and even a white 80s style shell suit making an appearance, before gingham took over. From shirts to macs, schoolgirl-inspired navy gingham prints were everywhere and were toughened up with block lines of pink or patent hi-shine textures, making it more fashion-forward. The  show ended with a variety of aquamarine teal outfits, featuring checks, racer backs and sheer fabrics that once again incorporated the sports luxe vibe whilst still being office appropriate.
Hair and make up was kept quite simple throughout with sleek side parted ponytails and clear skin, though this was juxtaposed against bright pops of cerise lipstick, epitomising Lee’s signature functional-yet-fashionable style. The J.Js Lee SS14 collection was one of the most practical, diverse and fun to have come out of the first day of London Fashion Week and it looks like will only be a matter of time before Lee’s inspired styles will be springing up across the high street.
