Trawling over to Piccadilly Circus, the next stop is Savile Row, where there’s an exclusive launch/preview of Ozwald Boateng’s SS12 collection taking place in the store.
A twenty minute or so wait; we were finally allowed to enter the store of tailored dreams. On arrival, there was the offer of a Grey Goose vodka cocktail (don’t mind if we do), made to suit our personal taste by the lovely barman.
But enough about alcohol, as always the real reason why we were here were the clothes. We were then lead into a room where models were stood still on cuboid platforms, showcasing this safari inspired range from Boateng. The collection is described as the designer sharing his personal experience of a safari, explaining how: “Africa is a spiritual home for me”. This is evidently clear from the traditional safari jacket to the leather oversized 48 hour bag, ideal for the on trend traveller.
Keeping it practical, fabrics consisted of cotton-linen blends and washed suede for a light, cool wear. Due to the African inspiration, colours were also violently vibrant, with a palette of rich greens, bold yellows and even a hint of indigo. Military and British style jackets could also be found, and other accessories includes a number of brogues, as well as a range of fur-felt ten gallon hats to complete the safari look.
A wonderful, innovative collection from Ozwald Boateng; it immediately made us want to pack up and head off on a safari adventure.
