It's that time of year again! We're in the final weeks before Christmas, and alongside cheerful music, festive decorations, and crowds of friends and family, that means it's time to nail down those last few people on your gift-giving list. As we noted in a recent post, shopping is up this season, and that means things may be even more competitive (and generally hectic) than usual out at the shops. So, to save you some time looking through shop windows and browsing collections in person, we thought we'd provide a general guide of last minute gift ideas for the people you may have on your list.
For The Gamer On Your List
Skip the next-generation consoles, unless you have someone on your list for whom you really need to purchase a major gift. They're simply too expensive! But for a last minute gift for a gamer, figure out which console he or she does have (or might be getting) and choose a popular game. This season, Grand Theft Auto V, Assassin's Creed IV, NBA 2k14, and FIFA 14 are some of the hottest options. But if they do have a next-gen console, the trailers and reviews have shown that just about any game on the PS4, Wii U, or Xbox One is going to be pretty spectacular.
For The Gadget Lover
Gadgets cover an enormous range, so to some extent this depends on who's on your list. But there are a few particularly hot options worth considering: e-readers like the Kindle and Nook are certainly popular; digital cameras seem to be making a bit of a comeback (despite smartphone camera capabilities) with the Panasonic Lumix FL1 perhaps providing the best bang for its buck; and there are always the smartphones themselves if you'd like to make a splash. The iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S4 are dominating headlines, but if you're looking for a more affordable option, the LG G2 has earned some great reviews as a very capable phone at a much more attractive price.
For The Music Enthusiast
Audio products like headphones and speakers are some of the trendiest gifts on the market these days, and they come in great variety with incredible quality. MySmartBuy features a few different options well worth taking a look at, including a Neostar cordless speaker most music enthusiasts would love to have. The reason being that it's a convenient and portable option, as it's light and relatively small with a convenient handle on top. Despite its size, it still packs a punch with 30W speakers. Plus, its bluetooth capability puts it in line with the hottest products on the audio market, and it will also play music stored on SD cards or USBs.
For The Reader
This is one category in which you can get away with some store browsing. Head to the nearest Barnes & Noble or local bookshop and find a popular book in an appropriate genre. This holiday season, Sycamore Row (the new legal thriller from John Grisham) and The Cuckoo's Calling (by J.K. Rowling under the pseudonym of "Robert Galbraith") are two of the most popular options, but truth be told 2013 has been packed with significant novels and book releases. And The Mountains Echoed, by Khaled Hosseini, for example, is looking like the leading pick for the book of the year.
For The Athlete
There are always plenty of gift options for active athletes, and often this is a bit of a case-by-case sort of gift because it depends on what a particular recipient may need. However, nearly every athlete needs to train, so one nice gift that will suit most people who fall into this category is a new pair of training or running shoes. The Free Run series from Nike is one of the most popular on the market right now, and it provides feather-light shoes with durable and flexible soles for a very comfortable run.
For The Teen
Teens are notoriously difficult to buy gifts for, largely because their interests tend to change so quickly and frequently. One nice idea to consider, however, is a good "old-fashioned" iPod or mp3 player. What once seemed like a very obvious and common gift is now becoming almost obscure, as the line between phones and music players is becoming increasingly blurred. Some are even speculating that Apple may discontinue the iPod. However, the fact is, a high-end smartphone is a lot of responsibility for at least a younger teen. An iPod gives them the entertainment and music without the Internet connection, phone capabilities, and other options. You could even load some of their favorite music on there to make it truly special.
