Flavour architects Bompas & Parr have collaborated with blu eCigs to create a first-of-its-kind chandelier that emits a mist designed to emulate characteristics of e-cigarette vapour, inspired by the distinctive blue light that shines from blu electronic cigarettes.
The renowned culinary experience designers, who founded their namesake Bompas & Parr in 2007 and have led the forefront in flavour-based experiences, havetaken their unique brand of flavour architecture to new territory, drawing inspiration from the futuristic technology of e-cigarettes to reconstruct the process of vaping on the largest scale ever seen.
15 litres of a non-nicotine version of blu eCigs bluBERRY flavoured e-liquid combine with water to create a ‘blu mist’ of vapour that cascades from the chandelier to create a completely immersive experience.
The blu Chandelier uses light, flavour and sound to produce a multi-sensory piece of art. Users step into a blue glow - inspired by the LED light that shines when a blu eCigs electronic cigarette is vaped – to become enveloped in gently billowing blueberry-scented vapour that can been seen and tasted. Turning the concept of a household object on its head, the chandelier will appear almost alive to guests as the sounds of breathing fill the space.
The design took three months to produce from initial design to completion.
Following the one-day showcase, the prototype will be available for hire, with custom-made commissions available on request, expected to cost upwards of £100,000.
The blu Chandelier will be unveiled at Ice Tank Studio, which is located between Tottenham Court Road and Covent Garden on Monday 15th December from 11.30am – 4pm for a one-day exhibition where visitors over the age of 18 will be able to see and experience the design up close, free of charge.
Bompas & Parr founder, Sam Bompas said: “The idea of taking inspiration from blu eCigs and turning it into the world’s largest ‘vape’ installation was hugely exciting for us – e-cigarettes are a brand a new technology that asks us to reassess the norm and we wanted to reflect this by taking a seemingly ordinary household object and making something that almost feels alive. The blu Chandelier is designed to create a collective, immersive experience that becomes a form of art in its own right.”
