Do you find the grind of a London 9-5 pretty tiresome? Do you wish you could just get away to colder climates and take a gun with you to work each day? If you are nodding ferociously at the computer screen reading this then we might have the perfect job for you/
Svalbard’s governor Odd Olsen Ingerø is looking for a resident polar bear spotter. Skills required are – a loud voice, good for shouting, a healthy fear of large animals – ie you can get fairly near but know when to run like hell and the ability to use a gun.
You would of course have to relocate to Svalbard, Norway, but with our current summer you probably wouldn’t be missing much. Your main duties each day include being on lookout for polar bears whilst scientists work.
Although it may sound like a doddle you’re going to have to have your wits about you as there are a huge amount of polar bears in the area. And it’s probably fair to point out the the Government’s official tourist guide carries the slogan : “BOW TO THE FORCES OF NATURE IN SVALBARD … We wish you an enjoyable and safe stay.”
So there you have it – a totally different job to go for this Monday morning.
