This Sunday stay away from the Yorkshires and the spuds and get to Rudie's instead where they're offering a new Jamaican Sunday Roast.
We popped down to Dalston last weekend for one and now feel we may make a weekly pilgrimage. Soon as you get into the restaurant the smell and atmosphere hit you. Chilled out music and friendly staff make you feel right home.
But come with an empty stomach mind... these portions are decent. Also come with a friend as most of the roast options are for 2 with whole tender, wonderful Chickens on the menu - hand-picked each morning by the chef.
Available from 1pm-6pm every Sunday, the restaurant will offer Londoners the chance to enjoy Head Chef Vernon Samuels’ Jamaican take on the Sunday Roast experience, with Jamaican flavours at the heart of the concept.
With that in mind, roast yams, pumpkins and sweetcorn are served alongside traditional bakes - Rudie’s take on the Yorkshire pudding; the gravy is pepped up with jerk rum, while the mouth-watering whole free-range chicken is marinated in Rudie’s authentic jerk rub and brings a real authenticity to the Jamaican-inspired menu. The roast is perfect for sharing and comes in at only £30.
A vegetarian roast is also available and for special occasions, a whole leg or shoulder of lamb can be pre-ordered for larger groups looking for a real feasting experience (starting from £15 per person).
Of course no Jamaican feast is complete without some excellent drinks to compliment. Opt for a selection of refreshing beers like Red Strip Jamaican lager, Fourpure Pils or Rudie’s Pale Ale on tap, bottled craft beers like Redchurch or simply order Rudie’s most requested sharing cocktail, Katch A Fire, named after one of Bob Marley’s best selling albums.
