HenryChelsea dining room, The Henry Root, re-launches this October following an extensive refurbishment by hospitality group, Affinity Bars & Restaurants.

The neighbourhood dining room will re-open on Monday 5th October with an elegant new interior and refreshed all-day menu. The kitchen has been relocated to the lower-ground floor, extending the restaurant dining area and creating space for contemporary artwork and grand mirrors, which will reflect natural light from the skylight above throughout the room. At the front, a casual, café-style area for morning coffees and brunch will seat guests with dogs and young families, while sleek stools transition the space to accommodate at-bar dining, ideal for after-work cocktails and early evening small plates. Mid-way, a large communal table will cater to kid’s clubs in the morning and dinner parties in the evening. A fresh new feminine colour palette of soft pink, tan and teal will ease diners through the day, with deep blue velvet banquettes adding a luxurious and sophisticated touch for refined dining in the evening.henry2

New all-day opening hours at The Henry Root will welcome guests for breakfast from 8am on weekdays and 9am on weekends, serving brunch, lunch and dinner throughout. Offering healthy takes on casual, comfort-food classics during the day, there will be a more refined, indulgent menu available in the evening. Brunch dishes like Smashed avocado, poached eggs on rye sit alongside salads such as Puglian burrata ‘Caperese’ with heritage tomatoes and basil and sandwiches including a Native lobster brioche roll, while Seabass with braised gem and mussel viniagrette and Parmesan-crumb chicken schnitzel with fennel and apple slaw make for healthy, heartier lunch options. In the evening, dishes including Grilled halibut with girolles, spinach and ver jus and Roasted rump of lamb with braised puy lentils and salsa verde are elegant enough for special occasions and destination dining, while plates of Macaroni cheese with truffled lobster, USDA Prime rib-eye steak and Henry’s grass-fed beef burger cater to The Henry Root’s local regulars.

The bar will be laid with a selection of fresh fruit, seasonal salads and homemade cakes during the day, perfect for mid-morning coffee, light lunch and afternoon tea. Cold-pressed juices and smoothies by Radiance Cleanse will also feature, available to take-away with coffees and other hot drinks, ideal for on-the-move mums; Radiance’s Chocolate smoothie – a blend of coconut milk, raw cacao, avocado and dates – is a wholesome treat for kids while the Green juice nourishes mums on the school run. In the evening, the bar will transform into Chelsea’s cocktail hot-spot, serving a selection of classics, fizzes and seasonal specials, perfect for post-work drinks, pre-dinner tipples and nightcaps alike.

Offering locals a trusted, social dining room in the heart of Chelsea, The Henry Root’s new all-day offering and popular neighbourhood events – including renowned ‘Doggy Dinners’ and weekend kid’s clubs – will be a welcome return to the area.

The Henry Root will host a soft-launch service from Wednesday 30th September to Sunday 4th October, offering guests 50% off food all day.

Quality fried chicken restaurant to open in Islington in October, with Camden following in November

unnamed

Free Range & Fried chicken specialist, BIRD, is building on the success of its Shoreditch branch and launching two new restaurants this autumn. BIRD Islington will open its doors on the 8th of October, closely followed by a third site opening in Camden in November.

A world away from the chicken shops commonly seen on the British high street, BIRD’s focus on quality, freshness and provenance has elevated fried chicken in London since its opening on Kingsland Road last year.

Respectfully restoring a beautiful abandoned corner pub, the unique Islington venue will see BIRD’s ‘naughty but nice’ ethos continue through its food & drink offering as well as it’s fresh and thoughtful approach to design, a combination which has made it so popular with East Londoners.

With a new menu tailored around its trademark free-range - and gluten-free - fried chicken and house-made sauces, there will be a strong focus on fried chicken burgers with several new additions, including:

The Gee Gee – a Korean inspired burger made with crispy fried chicken, sweet & spicy gochujang glaze and house-made kimchi slaw

The Nashville Hot – fried chicken coated with extra hot cayenne glaze, melted American cheese, house kewpie mayo and pickles

The West Coast – a nod to California with crispy fried chicken, fresh guacamole and pickled jalapenos

Firm favorites from Shoreditch such as crispy glazed wings and chicken, the ever-popular Original Waffle Burger and sides like  the jalapeno corn pudding, will round out the menu.

BIRD’s famous Doughnut Hatch will also be making an appearance in Islington, offering fresh risen glazed doughnuts made daily in-house, with rotating flavors such as peanut butter glaze or Oreo crunch. Diners can grab doughnuts to take away from the Hatch all day (with £1 coffee), or sit down inside to enjoy from the dessert menu as the popular ice cream doughnut sandwich. The Doughnut Hatch will also double as a takeaway window for BIRD during busy football match days.

To wash it all down, BIRD has partnered with Camden Town Brewery to offer a selection of draft beers that complement the restaurant’s extensive selection of craft cans and bottles. Those after something a bit stronger can enjoy BIRD classics such as the Dirtybird or Passionfruit Margarita, and new cocktails including the Watermelon Soju, made with the popular Korean spirit.  BIRD Islington will officially open on the 8th of October at 81 Holloway Road N7 8LT.

During its soft-launch, BIRD Islington will be offering 50% off food from the 1st October to 8th of October.

BIRD Camden will open in November with more information on the site released closer to the date.

Homeslice Launch Second Restaurant at 52 Wells Street, Fitzrovia

Homeslice will be launching their second restaurant at 52 Wells Street, Fitzrovia on 1st September 2015. The official launch will be preceded by a 2-day soft launch with the restaurant offering 50% off pizza from 12pm - 11pm Saturday 29th August and 12pm - 6pm Sunday 30th August, which of course is worth of our WJ "Offers" page.

The Wells Street menu will maintain Homeslice’s original simplicity, offering a changing selection of 20” wood-fired pizzas available whole or by the slice, to eat in or takeaway, served alongside beer and prosecco on tap and wine by the magnum with the addition of a seasonal cocktail menu served from the bar. The second site will be a significant expansion on the Neal’s Yard space with a distinctive look and feel.

We hope to have created a relaxed, fun and social space that shares the best of our Neal’s Yard restaurant whilst offering Fitzrovia a unique Homeslice experience,” said co-owners Ry Jessup and Mark Wogan. “We’ve been surprised and delighted by how supportive our Neal’s Yard customers have been and we hope to have created a space and offering Fitzrovia’s locals and visitors will take to in the same way.”
