bunga bunga in covent gardenThe latest project from Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling’s Inception Group, BungaTINI, a spin off and sister restaurant to the legendary Battersea venue, Bunga Bunga, has opened its doors on Drury Lane. Open throughout the day, guests can pop in to enjoy the very best coffee, pastries, homemade paninis cut from foot-long homemade focaccias, salads and, of course, pizzas cooked in a wood-fired Valoriani oven.

The deli’s eye-catching display counter has an excellent selection of cured meats, antipasti and homemade pasta available to take away or enjoy in the lively space decorated in warm wooden panelling, terracotta and original mosaic tiles. There is a vibrant bar serving negronis, bellinis, spritzes, vermouths and a wide range of proseccos and these can be enjoyed alongside small plates as part of the afternoon AperiTINI menu. Guests can sit on comfortable stools at the bar and enjoy a complimentary cicchetti with their cocktail, in true Italian tradition, or head up the spiral staircase to the upstairs restaurant area with full waiter service. This attractive space with original beams and decked out in fresh green foliage, will serve pizzas homemade in the clay oven alongside antipasti, pasta and other delicious wood-fired dishes. The perfect pit-stop either pre or post-theatre, the 30-cover area can also be hired privately.

General Manager, Matthew Richardson previously managed the original Beak Street Polpo, and has been travelling through Italy all summer handpicking suppliers along with Head Chef, Andrea Pesenti, formally of Mele e Pele. In the far back hand corner of BungaTini there is an obscure door to a refrigerated meat locker. The door is securely locked until January but behind the door lies the start of an immersive journey through to another world, hidden under the bustling pizzeria. Watch this space as further details will be revealed soon...

Founder Charlie Gilkes says of the project:
“We are delighted to introduce Bunga Bunga’s little sister, BungaTINI, a pizzeria and bar which will offer our guests an authentic Italian experience inspired by the backstreets of Florence and Venice. We look forward to welcoming you here soon, just don’t look in the meat locker for now...”

EMBARGOED TO 0001 WEDNESDAY JULY 20. EDITORIAL USE ONLY. Alexander Armstrong (centre), Gregory Watson and Clare Moscrop take part in the Pimm’s Cider Extreme Croquet Cup at The Shard in London, to celebrate the 165th anniversary of the game, which coincides with 165 years of Pimm’s production. Europe’s highest croquet lawn, hosted by Pimm’s Cider Cup, has opened at The View from The Shard, in a new residency at one of London’s most stunning venues.  For four weeks, guests visiting the jaw-dropping venue will be able to book a game of croquet for themselves and their friends with a special Pimm’s Cider Cup ticket, or play on a first come, first served basis upon entry to The View from The Shard.  The brand new croquet lawn will include top of the range Jaques of London mallets and hoops, with trained stewards on hand to walk players through the rules of the sport.

Pimm’s are issuing a rallying cry to the British Public this summer, to embrace the quirks and idiosyncrasies that make British summers so special.  After new research revealed that the game was in danger of dying out in its 165th anniversary year, Pimm’s have been working closely with Joe Jaques (the Great-Great-Grandson of the founder of Croquet) to reinvigorate the game with the launch of the Pimm’s Cider Croquet Cup.

Joe Jaques said: “This year marks 165 years since my great-great-grandfather invented croquet and – amazingly – 165 years since Pimm’s was first produced too. Back then, croquet was one of the most popular British sports, but over the last few decades we’ve seen fewer people taking up the sport.  I’m so pleased to be involved in getting the British public playing it again.”

Comedian Alexander Armstrong, who helped launch the Pimm’s Cider Croquet Cup, said “We’ve got to make sure that Britain doesn’t lose croquet entirely. I love the game – there couldn’t be a better summer’s day in my mind than pitching up to play croquet, cider in hand, at the local park or your garden – or even at the View from The Shard!”

To confirm a time for croquet play, you can purchase a Pimm’s Cider Cup + Croquet ticket for £29.95 which includes a bottle of the cider tipple.  Tickets to the View from The Shard are available at

Players must be 18+. The pop up finishes Sunday 21st August 2016.

Pimm’s Cider Cup blends English cider, fruit and glorious Pimm’s No. 1 Cup.  Available in British Summer Fruits, Mango & Passion Fruit, Strawberry & Cucumber and Plum & Red Apple flavours.
