The man who designed the original tube map, Harry Beck is rightly honoured with a Blue Plaque in London.
80 years after the map was drawn up, which couldn’t have been easy, a plaque wil be added to the house he was born in, in Wesley Road, Leyton, east London.
All tube maps since have been based on Harry’s original drawing which use da grid system to make the tube lines as simple as possible to navigate.
eck, who died in 1974 aged 72 and although you are probably thinking, hang on, it’s the tubes 150th anniversary this year, where were the maps before this, there were some but they were incredibly difficult to use. Harry made things simple.
To reflect the reason for his blue plaque the information thereon will be in the London Underground font.
